Work in the upcoming times
In the heart of Heidekreis, the Cooperative Comprehensive School in Schneverdingen has undergone a significant transformation, thanks to the Downward project. Initially a school project for career orientation, it has now become a mandatory subject after a decade.
The Downward project, under the leadership of school principal Mani Taghi-Khani, has revolutionised the educational landscape. Its unique aspect lies in the close support of teachers from the KGS, who accompany their students at the BBS for an entire school year. This unparalleled approach has led to more students pursuing vocational training after the 9th grade, and a notable drop in the drop-out rate.
The Cooperative Comprehensive School in Schneverdingen comprises three concepts: Jobwärts (secondary school), Apprentice upwards (intermediate school), and Uniwards (grammar school). Jobwärts, specifically, has seen a remarkable change. Around half of the graduates now go into apprenticeships, compared to just two out of 30 students previously.
The success of the Downward project has not gone unnoticed. In 2018, the KGS was awarded the "Pro-Berufsorientierung! Schule-Wirtschaft" certificate for excellent career and study orientation. Tina Stoessel, responsible for career guidance at the BBS, expresses satisfaction with the cooperation with KGS teachers, and Gaby Tinnemeier, principal of the BBS, has signed a five-year cooperation agreement with Taghi-Khani.
Every Monday, students travel to the vocational schools in Soltau to be introduced to four major vocational groups (construction, metal, gastronomy, and care). They are graded on specific tasks they complete in these schools, facilitating a quicker transition for students into practical training if they have decided on their training plans.
The teachers aim to provide intensive support for a successful transition to vocational training or university. A compact seminar at the Jugendhof Idingen, part of the Jobwärts program, offers additional insights into various vocational fields taught at the vocational schools in Soltau.
