UWA Expands to India: Mumbai & Chennai Campuses Approved
The University of Western Australia (UWA) has received the green light to set up international branch campuses in India. This significant move follows high-level talks between UWA executives and Indian government officials, and is set to bolster academic ties between the two nations.
UWA's expansion into India comes on the heels of a Memorandum of Understanding signed with tech giant HCLTech. This partnership aims to co-develop short courses and establish innovation hubs, significantly impacting universities in both countries. The first UWA campus in India will open in Mumbai, with a second one planned for Chennai.
UWA's Indian campuses will offer a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, focusing on STEM and business fields. This initiative is expected to foster research partnerships, student exchanges, and industry collaboration between Australia and India. Moreover, UWA has teamed up with Avasara Academy to provide full scholarships to high-achieving young women from underprivileged backgrounds in India.
UWA's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amit Chakma, views this development as a major milestone, reflecting the university's commitment to academic excellence and collaboration with India. The Indian campuses will uphold the same academic standards and quality assurance as UWA's Perth campus, ensuring a high-quality education for Indian students.
