UNM and NMSU face legal action for withholding details about athlete compensation
The New Mexico Foundation for Open Government has taken a significant step in advocating for transparency, filing lawsuits against the University of New Mexico (UNM) and New Mexico State University (NMSU). The lawsuits aim to release revenue-sharing information for student athletes getting paid by the schools.
Two Albuquerque-based media companies, The Pit Press, are involved in these lawsuits. The Pit Press, which covers UNM Lobo athletics, has joined the lawsuit against NMSU, with reporter Nick Nuñez at the forefront of the dispute. Similarly, Nuñez is also involved in the lawsuit against NMSU.
The lawsuits against both universities seek to unveil the financial details surrounding student athletes' earnings, a matter of public interest that has been shrouded in secrecy. The Pit Press's involvement underscores the media's role in promoting transparency and accountability in academic institutions.
For general queries or concerns, you can reach out to The Pit Press at web@our website. It's hoped that these lawsuits will bring about a new era of transparency in college sports funding, ensuring that the public has access to crucial information about how student athletes' earnings are distributed.
