University of Greenwich Unveils Pioneering SHIFT Center for Immersive Future Technologies

The University of Greenwich has established a new center of excellence, the SHIFT (Shared Hub for Immersive Future Technologies), dedicated to education and research in the field of audiovisual content and process. This cutting-edge facility is located in the borough of Greenwich, London, England [1].

At the heart of the SHIFT center's operations is the Alfalite Modularpix Pro 1.5 ORIM VP XR LEDWALL, a state-of-the-art video wall that is being utilised for the creation and display of XR content [2]. The Brompton SX40 and XD Unit LED video processors are managing the LEDWALL, ensuring smooth and high-quality visuals.

The SHIFT center is not only a hub for research but also a platform for knowledge exchange, participating in projects aimed at identifying new products in the audiovisual sector [3]. Luis Garrido Fuentes, managing director of Alfalite, expressed excitement about the potential contribution of their LED technologies to the advancement of research and education at the SHIFT center [4].

Mo-Sys, a leading provider of virtual production solutions, is responsible for the supply and integration of the VP XR solution at the SHIFT center, including the StarTracker Max systems and other XR solutions [5]. This collaboration results in a complete VP XR ecosystem at the University of Greenwich, marking the only 100% European VP XR solution in operation [6].

In addition to its research and education activities, the SHIFT center offers employment and internship opportunities for students, providing them with valuable experience in the competitive film industry [7]. The center is also designing virtual production training programs for industry professionals [8].

The AVTechnology Newsletter, a trusted source for features, industry news, and analysis for AV/IT professionals, has covered the development of the SHIFT center and its innovative technologies [9]. This news further underscores the impact and significance of the University of Greenwich's commitment to the advancement of audiovisual technologies.
