Université de Coblenz seals a new collaboration deal with the Catholic University of Rwanda and broadens its partnership with Rwanda Polytechnic.

The University of Koblenz has bolstered its ties with Rwanda by inking two fresh cooperation pacts with the Catholic University of Rwanda and Rwanda Polytechnic on September 18, 2022.

These pacts unlock thrilling prospects for students, faculty, and researchers, as underscored by Vice President Prof. Dr. Constanze Juchem-Grundmann. The novel alliances will beef up the international portfolio of the University of Koblenz, presenting a broad array of collaborative avenues.

One such chance is hands-on training for teacher training students from the University of Koblenz at schools allied with the Catholic University of Rwanda. This collaboration stretches beyond teaching, with innovative digital teaching modes and joint projects across diverse disciplines also on the cards.

The University of Koblenz already boasts numerous existing partnerships with institutions in Rwanda, including the University of Rwanda, Rwanda Development Board, African Institute for Mathematical Sciences, Rwanda Forestry Authority, Nyungwe Management Company/African Parks, and other bodies in the country.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) backs the Rwanda Center and the Office for Cooperation Partnerships in Africa at the University of Koblenz in coordinating, accompanying, and further developing varied cooperations with Rwanda. The Rwanda Center plays a pivotal role in this endeavor.

In addition to teacher training, a partnership in the sphere of German as a foreign language (DaF) is sought owing to the high demand for the German language in Rwanda. Faculty from Rwanda Polytechnic will also be further honed through a qualification program at the University of Koblenz.

Joint bids for funds to implement digital-hybrid teaching formats are planned between the University of Koblenz and the Catholic University of Rwanda. The enlarged cooperation with Rwanda Polytechnic will span the entire institution, encompassing teacher training in vocational education.

One arena of existing collaboration with Rwanda Polytechnic is environmental and nature conservation, with the safeguarding of the Cyamudongo Forest in southwestern Rwanda being part of this collaboration. However, no particular project or initiative was cited in this regard.

For more intel about these cooperations, please reach out to Siegmar Seidel at the University of Koblenz, Rwanda Center and Office for Africa Cooperations, phone: 0261 287 - 2285, email: [email protected].

These new pacts signify a significant stride in further expanding the long-standing relationships with Rwanda, unlocking a world of opportunities for all involved.
