TEQSA Launches Consultation to Boost Higher Education Sector's Efficiency and Self-Assurance
The Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) has launched a consultation on three crucial Guidance Notes aimed at enhancing efficiency and boosting self-assurance in Australia's higher education sector. The consultation, open until 5.00pm on Friday, 18 July, invites feedback on draft notes concerning information for students, representation, and information management.
TEQSA has identified several pressing issues in the sector, including misleading claims about migration outcomes and visa guarantees, inaccurate representation of course costs, and insufficient monitoring of agents' or third-parties' conduct and representations. The draft guidance note on information for prospective and current students has been flagged for not adequately addressing requirements under the National Code in the context of international education.
The first two guidance notes serve as reminders to providers of their responsibilities under the National Code of Practice for Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students 2018 and the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000 (ESOS Act). TEQSA encourages providers to pay close attention to the 'identified issues' in the guidance notes, as they highlight potential risks and areas of regulatory focus.
TEQSA welcomes feedback on the draft Guidance Notes via [email protected]. Addressing the identified issues will help ensure providers meet their obligations under the National Code and ESOS Act, promoting transparency and integrity in the higher education sector.
