Tech & Learning Summit Honours Educators Blending Tech & SEL

The Tech & Learning Leadership Summit concluded at UC Irvine, honouring educators who blend technology with pedagogy and social-emotional learning. Sophia Mendoza, Director of Instructional Technology at Los Angeles Unified School District, won Best Overall Implementation of Technology.

The summit, held at the UC Irvine Conference Center, featured a keynote by UCI's Gillian Hayes on making edtech more accessible. Attendees also heard from Robert Sidford, Director of Technology and Innovation at Mt. Diablo Unified School District, who oversaw a district-wide 1-to-1 program serving 29,000 students.

Ling Lam, Director of Education Technology at Helios School, won Best Example of Student & Teacher Well-Being Programs. Lam emphasised the importance of blending technology with solid pedagogy and social-emotional learning. The summit included a student panel discussing how esports can open college and career opportunities, with attendees also touring the UCI Esports Arena, the first of its kind on a college campus.

Sophia Mendoza, who leads the ITI's three initiatives at Los Angeles Unified School District, was recognised for her leadership. The summit closed with the California Tech & Learning Innovative Leader Awards ceremony, honouring educators who are transforming education through technology.
