Student with impeccable school attendance since kindergarten vows to honor his grandmother's expectation for academic success.
In Wilson, North Carolina, James Brown III, an exemplary high school student, is readying himself for graduation as his class's valedictorian. This achievement, in itself, is worthy of pride, but what sets James apart is his unparalleled devotion to education. His family claims that he has never missed a day of school since kindergarten, maintaining a record of perfect attendance.
The concluding ceremony of the Wilson Preparatory Academy was held in the school's gymnasium. After a successful rehearsal, James appeared calm but slightly nervous, showcasing his commitment to academic excellence. He credits his consistent effort in studies for his ability to excel academically.
"Working every day, studying, getting every single thing right to a 'T' to where I could be able to pass all my classes," James elucidated his approach to studies.
Upon graduation, James plans to delve into engineering, with Fayetteville State University being his next destination. A part of his valedictorian speech was glimpsed, showcasing his optimistic outlook for the future.
"Class of 2025, the world we are stepping into is big, messy, beautiful, and full of possibilities," the soon-to-be graduate previewed.
What his speech does not reveal is his longstanding dedication to academic pursuits. His parents shared that this work ethic may have been inherited from them. James's father, James Brown Jr., started working at the tender age of 4, instilling a strong work ethic in him.
"I started working at 4 years old in tobacco with my family and I've just always worked," said James Brown Jr., explaining his son's unwavering dedication.
James' mother added a poignant note. Weeks before the graduation, her own mother, Annie S. Pitt, passed away unexpectedly in a house fire. Despite this personal loss, James persevered, ensuring he would not miss a day of school.
"Even the day that she passed away, he still came to school," James' mother, Annetta Brown, shared.
Daryl Woodard, the head of the school, honored James with the valedictorian medal he will wear at the graduation. As he prepares to step into the next phase of his life, James' parents hope that his relentless devotion remains, even as he ventures into college.
"I'm having an alarm ready," James joked, highlighting his determination to maintain his perfect attendance record in college with the support of his parents.
"As he steps into the realm of college, James' parents hope that his relentless dedication to academic excellence extends beyond high school, impacting his lifestyle, relationships, and education-and-self-development."
"In college, James intends to maintain his perfect attendance record, demonstrating his commitment to education and self-development, while also navigating the complexities of adult relationships and adapting to a new lifestyle."
