Schools in the city issue 660 safety vests to graduates
In the university city of Marburg and the city of Bergisch Gladbach, a significant initiative was taken to ensure the safety of schoolchildren. During the 2025/2026 school year, a total of 660 children's warning vests were distributed to new students.
In Marburg, where the distribution of these vests has been a practice for six years, the university city sent out a reminder through its newsletter, keeping individuals informed about town hall and city life updates. The distribution was done as an example for all new students, with Mayor Nadine Bernshausen, School Department Head, and school principal Ulrich Thode present.
Mayor Bernshausen, during her visit to the first graders of the West Comprehensive Schools in Cyriaxweimar, addressed the children, calling them 'real superheroes in traffic.' She distributed the vests, each yellow in colour, to the excited children, emphasizing their importance in making them visible and safe during their school journey.
The children were told that their vests would make them shine on their school route. Special caution is needed from other road users at the start of the school year, as the school route is new and exciting for new students. To further ensure safety, poster stands and banners were set up in Marburg to draw the attention of road users to the fact that many students are on the move.
Students were advised to wear light clothing, attach reflectors to their school bags, and wear the warning vests. It is also recommended that family members practice the school route with the children beforehand. Walking to school is important for students to gain experience in traffic and to be able to walk the school route together with other students.
In Bergisch Gladbach, the city administration distributed these vests to new students, making it clear that they support the 'Walk to School' campaign. This distribution took place at the West Comprehensive Schools, marking a significant step towards ensuring the safety of schoolchildren in the city.
Subscribing to the newsletter of the university city of Marburg keeps individuals informed about town hall and city life updates, ensuring that they are always in the know about such important initiatives.
