Schools in the city equip students with 660 safety vests upon graduation

In the university city of Marburg, an exciting new school year has begun, and a significant step has been taken to ensure the safety of its young students. Mayor Nadine Bernshausen recently distributed 660 children's warning vests to new students at the West Combined Primary Schools, marking the sixth consecutive year that the city has implemented this safety measure.

The bright yellow vests, designed to make wearers clearly visible, were handed out to the first-graders of Cyriaxweimar by Mayor Bernshausen herself. Headmaster Ulrich Thode and class teacher Nora Claar were present during the distribution, emphasising the importance of the vests in keeping the children safe on their school journey.

Mayor Bernshausen encouraged the children to wear their warning vests, likening them to superheroes in traffic. She emphasised the need for special caution from all road users at the start of the school year, as the school journey is new and exciting for the boys and girls of the West Combined Primary Schools.

Walking to school is not only an exciting adventure but also a practical solution to reduce parent taxis and traffic congestion in front of schools, which can be a danger to children. The city of Marburg supports the "walk to school" action, encouraging students to gain experience in traffic and walk to school with other students.

To help parents and students prepare for the school journey, the city provides a newsletter with important information from the town hall and city life. Poster stands and banners are set up around Marburg to alert road users to the fact that many students are on the move. It is recommended that family members practice the school journey with the children beforehand.

In addition to the children's warning vests, students are advised to wear light clothing, attach reflectors to their school bags, and wear the vests. These precautions aim to ensure the safety of the children as they navigate their way to school.
