In a continued commitment to education and workforce development, the partnership between Cougar Oil and the Petroleum & Convenience Marketers of Alabama (P&CMA) has awarded four new Commercial Driver's License (CDL) scholarships to students in Selma and Dallas County, Alabama. This three-year tradition marks the 14th round of scholarships provided by the collaboration.

The scholarships, made possible in part by the P&CMA Educational Foundation, aim to support local students in gaining their CDL, leading to career opportunities in the trucking and transportation industries. The initiative has been recognised publicly and has garnered positive reception within the community, with local news outlets covering the awards.

A Tribute to Lane Frazer

This year's CDL scholarships were awarded in memory of Lane Frazer, a respected Selma-based trucking operator who passed away in 2024. Frazer was a phenomenal person who loved his family and community. His legacy lives on through this partnership, which continues to provide opportunities for aspiring truck drivers in the region.

Empowering Local Economic Growth

Cougar Oil, a family-owned fuel and petroleum distribution company based in Selma, Alabama, and P&CMA, which represents over 150 petroleum marketers and convenience store operators across the state, are dedicated to empowering local economic growth. By removing financial barriers for students pursuing CDL certification, the scholarships help create a skilled workforce in Alabama's Blackbelt, strengthening the economy in rural areas like Selma and Dallas County.

Community Investment

The partnership between Cougar Oil and P&CMA represents a targeted community investment, creating opportunities for local students to obtain CDL credentials and improve their career prospects. Bart Fletcher, President of P&CMA, expressed pride in partnering with Cougar Oil and Wallace State Community College to assist in providing these scholarships.

Rex Jones, CEO of Cougar Oil, stated that truck driving provides a great career for many Alabamians, offering an exciting path forward. He emphasised that the company is committed to serving communities across Alabama and advancing opportunities for the next generation of workers.

P&CMA, which has been fueling Alabama's economic engine since 1949, is dedicated to fueling progress and opportunity. Through its educational foundation, the organisation is committed to education, community development, and advancing opportunities for the next generation of Alabama workers.

The recipients of the scholarships were congratulated by Fletcher and a wish for great success in their careers was extended to them. With these scholarships, the students can look forward to stable, well-paying careers in the transportation industry and the opportunity to remain in Dallas County after completing their training, contributing to the local community.

The scholarships given by Cougar Oil and P&CMA, part of their community investment, aim to provide local students with a chance to pursue careers in the trucking and transportation industries, a booming sector of the finance industry. By offering educational funding, particularly in memory of Lane Frazer, this partnership strengthens the education-and-self-development sector, fostering economic growth in rural areas like Selma and Dallas County, Alabama.
