Rommerskirchen Progresses Towards Fairtrade District Status
Rommerskirchen is making strides towards becoming a Fairtrade district. Children and young people are learning about fair trade through various initiatives, with the Kita Pusteblume even designing fair trade cotton bags. The municipality is committed to supporting kindergartens and schools in their efforts to become Fair Kindergartens and Fairtrade Schools.
The Kita Pusteblume in Rommerskirchen has been actively involved in fair trade education. The kindergarten designed fair trade cotton bags with the children, teaching them about the origins of fair trade products. Meanwhile, Benjamin Josephs, a local official, has pledged continued support for kindergartens and schools in their journey to become Fair Kindergartens and Fairtrade Schools.
Regular networking meetings are held to discuss and plan fair trade activities in kindergartens. An information event is also planned for next year to encourage more schools to get involved and become Fairtrade Schools. Aileen Wichmann, the sustainability manager of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, has been instrumental in promoting these initiatives. She presented the areas of 'Global Responsibility and One World' and 'Sustainable Administration' as part of the sustainability strategy.
Rommerskirchen's commitment to fair trade is evident in its use of fair trade products in the town hall and its collaboration with numerous cooperation partners. The district is aspiring to become a certified Fairtrade Town in the future. With ongoing networking meetings, information events, and the involvement of local kindergartens and schools, Rommerskirchen is well on its way to becoming a Fairtrade district. Certified schools can proudly report on their engagement in fair trade, contributing to the district's overall goal.
