RMLNLU Ends as Runners-Up in Mediation Segment of IBA-VIAC Dispute Resolution Competition's Mediation Contest
The Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University (RMLNLU) team, comprising Akarsh Anand and Sana Soneja, has made a significant mark in the international legal arena by securing the runners-up position in the Mediation segment of the prestigious International Bar Association - Vienna International Arbitral Centre (IBA-VIAC) Consensual Dispute Resolution Competition (CDRC).
Held from July 11-15, 2025, the competition, which focused on Consensual Dispute Resolution, attracted 66 participating teams from renowned institutions worldwide. The event, organised by the IBA-VIAC, tested the participants' skills in resolving complex legal disputes through mediation rather than litigation.
The mediation problem in the competition revolved around principles of contract termination, bank guarantee, insurance law, banking law, and settling disputes outside the court. The competition was highly competitive, with teams from India, including Lloyd Law College, Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai, National Law School of India Bengaluru, and others, also taking part.
Despite not winning the finals, the RMLNLU team's performance in the Mediation segment marked a significant success for the institution. Singapore Management University emerged as the winner of the finals. The achievement of the RMLNLU team underscores their strong aptitude in mediation and consensual dispute resolution at an international level, reflecting well on the institution and its students' negotiation and problem-solving capabilities in complex legal domains.
This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of Akarsh Anand and Sana Soneja, who represented RMLNLU, Lucknow, in the competition.
