Regulation Regarding Mobile Phone Usage Prohibition during Parent-Teacher Digital Meetings - Regulation on the Prohibition of Mobile Phones During Digital Parent-Teacher Meetings
In preparation for the upcoming school year, the Youth and Media Consultation Centre has organised two digital parent-teacher meetings to discuss media education and current smartphone rules in schools. These meetings will take place on August 26 for primary and special schools, and on August 27 for secondary and vocational schools, both running from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM in Wiesbaden.
The meetings aim to provide practical tips, short expert lectures, and the opportunity to ask questions. The topics to be covered include online challenges, cyber grooming, cyberbullying, and the importance of media literacy in reducing the risk of psychological strain, social isolation, misinformation, and limited participation in democracy.
The mobile phone ban, announced by the Ministry of Culture, will also be enforced in Hessian schools starting from August 18. The ban applies to the use of smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches, with some exceptions possibly being made for secondary schools.
The mobile phone ban is intended to reduce the risk of psychological strain, implying that a lack of media literacy increases this risk. It's worth noting that smartphones, tablets, social networks, messaging services, and photo or video platforms are a significant part of young people's daily lives.
