Q&A Session with Tiger Gao, the Host of Policy Punchline

Tiger Gao, a senior in the Economics Department at Princeton, founded Policy Punchline, a student-run podcast, during his freshman or sophomore year. The podcast was born out of a lack of engagement in major clubs and a burning desire to interview guest lecturers, providing a platform for students to discuss public policy topics insightfully and foster learning within the Princeton community.

Interested individuals can join Policy Punchline without going through a formal application process. All they need to do is send an email to Tiger Gao at [email protected]. Passion for the work is considered a key factor in determining whether a candidate is a good fit for the team.

The podcast has grown to include a team of over 50 students and has released 99 interviews. Tiger Gao himself has personally conducted over 100 interviews, focusing on conducting long-form dialogues with well-known public figures on current policy issues.

Policy Punchline covers a wide range of topics, from reimagining capitalism and energy sources of the future to current elections. The podcast prides itself on being a nonpartisan platform, promoting thought-provoking discussions on urgent issues and frontier ideas.

One of Tiger Gao's first interviews was with Dr. Christopher Marks, the Head of Emerging Markets for Mitsubishi Financial Group. In the interview, Dr. Marks advised Tiger Gao not to be afraid to talk to people who are smarter or more experienced, as asking questions and improving is what matters.
