PM Modi's Birthday: 2 Crore Women Become 'Lakhpati Didis', Major Health Campaign Launched
Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked his birthday by announcing significant strides in women's empowerment and health. He revealed that nearly 2 crore women have become 'Lakhpati Didis', earning over ₹1 lakh annually, and are being trained as Bank Sakhis and Drone Didis. This news comes as part of the nationwide 'Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar' campaign, launched in September 2023, aiming to improve women's health and empower families.
The campaign, running from September 17 to October 2, offers a wide range of services including health screenings, maternal and child health services, mental health counselling, and specialist consultations. It also serves as a single-window centre for Ayushman Card registration and enrolment in key welfare schemes, ensuring no woman is left behind regardless of her location.
Modi highlighted the government's track record in improving maternal and infant health. Since 2017, the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) has transferred over ₹19,000 crore to 4.5 crore women. On his birthday, he released ₹450 crore into the accounts of 15 lakh women under this scheme.
The Prime Minister also marked the launch of a mission to screen 5 crore individuals for sickle cell anaemia, with over 1 crore already screened. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for India's first PM MITRA Park in Dhar, expected to draw ₹23,140 crore in investments and create 3 lakh new jobs.
The 'Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar' campaign, alongside the 8th edition of Rashtriya Poshan Maah focusing on nutrition awareness, aims to empower and improve the health of women across India. With the success of the PMMVY and the launch of new initiatives, the government continues to prioritize women's health and empowerment.
