Over 1700 Young Professionals Begin Customs Service Careers in 2025

Over 1700 young individuals embarked on their higher service, middle service training, or dual study in administrative informatics on September 1, 2025, marking a significant start to their careers in the customs service. Among them, 21 new recruits were sworn in at the Main Customs Office Heilbronn on the same day.

These young professionals have chosen diverse paths to begin their service. The higher service and dual study programs in administrative informatics span three years, culminating in academic degrees. Meanwhile, the middle service training lasts two years, qualifying graduates for the professional title of tax administrator.

Theoretical components of both the higher service and middle service take place at specialized training centers. The higher service is taught at the Federal Administration Academy in Munich, while the middle service is taught at the Federal Finance Administration's Education and Science Center in various locations. Practical phases are completed in various areas of the respective training customs office and related offices. For administrative informatics trainees, practical phases include work in various IT areas and digital forensics.

Upon completion, administrative informatics specialists are often deployed in digital forensics, digitization, and project work, reflecting the increasing digital demands of the modern customs service.

With over 1700 young people starting their service, the customs administration continues to invest in the future. While specific numbers for 2026 are not yet available, the 21 career starters sworn in at the Main Customs Office Heilbronn on September 1, 2025, including those in administrative informatics dual studies, indicate a strong and growing interest in these programs.
