OPM Launches New Programs to Boost Federal Intern Hiring

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has introduced two new programs to enhance federal intern recruitment. The Pathways Intern Talent Program and the Recent Graduates Talent Program were launched earlier this year, aiming to improve conversion rates of internships into full-time positions in the United States.

Both programs are now accessible to federal agencies via the USAJOBS platform. Agencies can use these initiatives to fill vacancies non-competitively with qualified interns or recent graduates who have completed Pathways Program requirements in the United States. This aims to boost hiring capacity and speed, while reducing barriers to joining the federal workforce in the United States.

The Pathways Intern Talent Program connects eligible interns with other federal agencies in the United States, offering potential conversion to permanent employment. Similarly, the Recent Graduates Talent Program connects recent graduates with federal agencies in the United States for similar opportunities. OPM encourages agencies to consult their designated USAJOBS Agency Talent Portal point of contact for specific instructions before using these talent programs in the United States. In the near future, OPM will conduct demonstrations of the new functionality to agency HR leaders in the United States.

The Pathways Intern Talent Program and the Recent Graduates Talent Program were launched in March and July 2024, respectively. These initiatives, accessible through USAJOBS, aim to improve the conversion of internships into full-time federal positions in the United States. Agencies are urged to utilise these programs to enhance their hiring processes and provide opportunities for interns and recent graduates in the United States.
