Oberlin College's EAS Program Offers Prestigious Awards and Scholarships
Oberlin College's East Asian Studies (EAS) program boasts several distinguished scholarships and prizes to acknowledge and support students. These include the Margaret Ribovich DiCenzo Prize, the Newton Prize, and various study abroad scholarships.
The Margaret Ribovich DiCenzo Prize for Academic Excellence in East Asian Studies is awarded annually to graduating students majoring in EAS. Meanwhile, the Newton Prize competition is open to all students in the College and Conservatory for works on Asian themes promoting East-West understanding.
The EAS program also offers scholarships to reward students for academic achievement and assist them in studying abroad. The An Family Korean Language Summer Study Scholarship enables 3-4 students to study abroad in Seoul for a summer. Additionally, the Chinese Government Scholarship is available to two Oberlin seniors per year to study at a Chinese University.
One notable fellowship is the Gregory Levine Fellowship, which allows students to extend their stay in Japan for research or exploration. However, no recipients were found for the years 2020 and 2023.
These scholarships and prizes not only acknowledge academic excellence but also provide opportunities for students to deepen their understanding of East Asian cultures and languages. They are a testament to Oberlin College's commitment to fostering East-West understanding.
