NKU to Host Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts in 2026
Northern Kentucky University (NKU) will host the Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts (GSA) starting in 2026. The three-week intensive summer arts residency program for Kentucky high school sophomores and juniors will take place at NKU from June 7 to 27, 2026. Applications will open on October 10, 2025, at www.kentuckygsa.org, with a deadline of January 18, 2026.
NKU's School of the Arts, renowned for its programs in Art & Design, Music, and Theatre & Dance, will serve as the hub for GSA students. The university's Fine Arts Center, equipped with state-of-the-art venues and facilities, will provide a professional creative environment for the participants. The GSA program offers instruction in nine disciplines, with Graphic Design being a new addition this year.
NKU President Dr. Cady Short-Thompson expressed excitement about the partnership. She highlighted NKU's commitment to supporting the arts and celebrating creativity. NKU will host the GSA program for three years, starting with the summer of 2026. Previously, the program was designated to be hosted by the University of Kentucky for the years 2026 to 2028.
The Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts summer intensive program will now call Northern Kentucky University its home for the next three years. The university looks forward to welcoming talented young artists and fostering their creative growth.
