Hanoi, Vietnam, is proud to have nine of its prestigious academic institutions featured in the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings for 2025. Three universities have joined the list this year, significantly boosting Vietnam's presence in higher education throughout Asia.

The esteemed THE released their top universities in Asia based on a multitude of factors, such as research quality, teaching, and international outlook. Among the nine Vietnamese institutions, six made the list last year, with three impressive newcomers: the University of Economics HCM City (UEH), Ha Noi Medical University, and HCM City Open University.

The University of Economics HCM City (UEH), the highest-ranking Vietnamese university among the new entrants, secured the 136th position. This achievement serves as an early milestone towards UEH's strategic goal for the 2025-2045 period, aiming to rank among the top 250 universities in Asia by 2030 and the top 150 by 2045.

The University of Economics HCM City's (UEH) Chairman, Professor Dr. Nguyen Dong Phong, remarked, "This result is a testament to the tireless efforts of UEH staff and reconfirms our strategic direction of sustainable, multidisciplinary development."

Ha Noi Medical University and HCM City Open University started their Rankings journey in the 401-500 and 501-600 brackets, respectively. The remaining universities on the list, largely unchanged from last year's ranking, include Ha Noi University of Science and Technology, Viẹt Nam National University Ha Noi, Viẹt Nam National University HCM City, and Hue University.

Asia's educational scene continues to be dominated by China, with Tsinghua University and Beijing University holding first and second place, respectively. China is the only country boasting seven universities in the top ten. Other institutions in the top ten include the National University of Singapore (third), Nanyang Technological University (fourth), and the University of Tokyo (fifth).

For 2025, THE assessed 853 universities from over 30 countries and territories, welcoming Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Mongolia, and Syria as first-time participants. Universities were evaluated based on 18 indicators across five main categories: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry[1][3]. This robust evaluation process ensures a balanced assessment of universities in the areas of teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international engagement[1][3].
