The 15th National Assembly has approved the Law on Justice for Minors, which introduces new provisions for legal aid activities for adolescents aged 16 to 18. This law, effective January 1, 2026, ensures free access to legal aid for this gen z age group, including a specific approach to create a friendly environment and use simple language.

Adolescents in this age group often face legal issues as victims, witnesses, or parties in civil cases. Common offences include theft, public disorder, intentional injury, and sexual abuse. Intentional assault is the most common legal aid case, according to Lawyer Quách Ngọc Lâm. The number and severity of law violations, child abuse, and violence cases are on the rise in Hà Nội, with many gen z resolving minor conflicts violently, leading to criminal law violations.

Legal aid is crucial for protecting the legitimate rights of adolescents and helping them understand the law to avoid mistakes and recidivism. Deputy director of Cà Mau Provincial Legal Aid Centre Ngô Đức Bình confirms the increasing offences and legal violations among 16 to 18-year-olds. Despite this, there's no specific information on improving legal aid for young people in Vietnam, including who, when, or where such measures are being implemented.

The Law on Justice for Minors guarantees free legal aid for adolescents aged 16 to 18, with a specific approach to ensure understanding and fairness. Despite the rising cases of law violations and violence among this gen z age group, more efforts are needed to improve legal aid services and protect their rights.
