Nazarbayev University Showcases AI Solutions at Bett Show in London

Nazarbayev University, a leading institution in Kazakhstan, presented its AI solutions at the British Educational Training and Technology Show (Bett Show) in London from January 22-24. Among the solutions showcased were the Soyle App, ISSAI KAZ-LLM Kazakh language model, and Artisan Education.

The Soyle App, a self-study platform for robotics and programming, offers multifunctional features such as speech recognition, voice synthesis, and instant translation. With an intuitive user interface, the Soyle App aims to bridge communication gaps and enhance Kazakhstan's growing digital landscape.

Artisan Education, founded in 2023, is a platform that focuses on self-paced learning in robotics and programming. The platform begins with foundational lessons in programming and electronics, culminating in students assembling their robotic models. Artisan Education's approach is further bolstered by its rapid prototyping board, based on the Raspberry Pi Pico W microcontroller, which enables students to deepen their skills in IoT and AI projects.

Artisan Education is not only making waves in Kazakhstan but is also expanding internationally, with plans to enter Azerbaijan and the UK. The platform participates in NURIS incubation and acceleration programs and has partnered with over 90 schools in Kazakhstan.

The ISSAI KAZ-LLM Kazakh language model is another AI solution presented by Nazarbayev University at the Bett Show. This large language model pushes the boundaries of generative AI for low-resource languages, trained on a neural network supporting Kazakh, Russian, English, and Turkish. The model's performance, as measured by BLEU scores on the FLoRes benchmark dataset, outperforms tools like Google Translate, Yandex Translate, and GPT-4o.

Zhanat Makhataeva, senior data analyst at NU's Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI), presented two of NU's standout contributions, ISSAI KAZ-LLM and the Soyle App, at the Bett Show. The ISSAI team processed over 150 billion tokens to create a robust dataset for the KAZ-LLM model.

The Bett Show is an annual global hub for educational technology, featuring over 600 innovative exhibits, thought-provoking discussions, and workshops led by EdTech experts. This year's event gathered thousands of educators and innovators to explore cutting-edge solutions shaping the future of education. Nazarbayev University's presentation of the Soyle App and ISSAI KAZ-LLM Kazakh language model showcased the institution's commitment to advancing AI technology and its role in the global education sector.

Artificial-intelligence technologies, such as the ISSAI KAZ-LLM Kazakh language model and the Soyle App, are bringing revolutionary changes to education-and-self-development platforms, as demonstrated by Nazarbayev University at the Bett Show. With the Soyle App, learning robotics and programming has become more interactive and accessible through multifunctional features, while the ISSAI KAZ-LLM model pushes the boundaries of generative AI for low-resource languages.
