Whitney High School Recognized as National Blue Ribbon School for Sixth Time

Whitney High School in the ABC Unified School District has been honoured as a National Blue Ribbon School for the sixth time, according to the U.S. Department of Education. This recognition was bestowed upon the school on September 24, 2024.

The school's latest accolade comes in the Exemplary High Performing Schools category, which is based on student performance in math and reading/language arts state assessments, as reported by U.S. News and World Report. Additionally, Whitney High School's recognition is also based on a combination of factors, including student ACT and SAT scores, according to BestSchools.org.

Whitney High School's Principal, Dr. Tuesday Stoffers, expressed her delight, stating that the recognition reflects the high quality of instruction provided by the school's teachers and staff, the diligence of the students, and the strong support of the families. She added that the recognition affirms the hard work of educators, families, and communities in creating school environments where students are challenged and engaged.

In the same vein, the recognition for Carmenita Middle School and Wittmann Elementary School, also in the ABC Unified School District, affirms the same hard work and dedication. The U.S. Department of Education recognised these schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools on September 21, 2022. However, no information about the number of times these schools have previously received the National Blue Ribbon School award was provided in the article.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, run by the U.S. Department of Education, has been recognising outstanding schools for 39 years. In 2024, only 356 schools were recognised nationwide, with 29 schools in California receiving the honour. This includes 33 schools that were recognised in 2024, and 29 schools in 2022.

Whitney High School's latest recognition places it among the top 50 public high schools in the United States, according to a study by BestSchools.org. Furthermore, U.S. News and World Report named Whitney High School as the top middle school in California in their 2025 Middle School Rankings.
