Getting a Head Start: Preparing New Teachers in Thuringia
Compulsory intensive training essential for professionals transitioning into teaching professions - Mandatory Training Program Set to Equip Apprentices with Necessary Skills for Upcoming Industry Changes
Welcome new teachers! Thuringia has a novel approach to kickstart your journey in the teaching world. In response to the shortage of educators in certain regions, lateral entry into the profession has been the preferred method for quite some time, but now, an additional pre-course is being mandated to help you hit the ground running, as per the Ministry of Education's statement.
"This pre-course is designed to provide a hands-on, supportive learning experience, ensuring a smooth start and making teaching a joy from day one," explained Christian Tischner, the Minister of Education and a former high school teacher himself, representing the CDU party.
The objective here is to streamline the teacher training process, focusing primarily on teaching and school services. The didactics and pedagogy training, as well as the school internship, will run concurrently during the pre-course. This initiative is based on a commitment made in the coalition agreement between the CDU, SPD, and BSW parties.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has also advertised 50 new roles for lateral entrants and difficult-to-fill subject combinations. Currently, 33 of these positions have been made available across the country's northern and southern regions. Among them, 15 are for teachers working in institutions specializing in support. In regular and comprehensive schools, the most requested subject among these openings is mathematics.
