IT Specialists and Class of '25: Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in Focus
The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) has unveiled its latest development on campus, the Student Hall for Exploration and Development (SHED), a state-of-the-art facility spanning over 120,000 square feet of new construction. This innovative space, designed to foster collaboration and creativity, is equipped with advanced audiovisual (AV) technology, including Crestron DM NVX AV over IP.
RIT's SHED caters to the diverse needs of its students, offering a variety of spaces such as maker spaces, team spaces, dance studios, rehearsal rooms, 27 new classrooms, an American Sign Language and Deaf Studies Community Center, and a performing arts theater. The atrium features a 23-foot-tall and 20-foot-wide video wall connected to the Crestron DM NVX technology systems.
Crestron DM NVX AV-over-IP technology was chosen for the project due to its incorporation into RIT's existing AV system. The technology offers several specific features and benefits, including high-resolution video support, real-time content sharing, secure and scalable streaming, multi-display and multi-room AV distribution, integration with Crestron Home Systems, support for collaboration and presentation spaces, and centralised management and monitoring.
The smaller classrooms at RIT's SHED are equipped with LED display technology that leverages DM NVX technology for content sharing and distribution. Most large classrooms and lecture halls are based on multiple presentation systems with seven laser projectors. Crestron scheduling panels are placed outside each classroom to show whether or not the room is occupied.
Shure microphones are available on all tables and for larger lectures, ensuring clear communication. Crestron Flex for Zoom software is available in every classroom, enabling video conferencing. Kinly, a previous collaborator with RIT, was chosen for the design and integration of the project.
John Schrenker, the manager of Learning Space and Classroom Technology at RIT, comments, "Our aim was to create an inclusive and technologically advanced space within the new SHED building. With the implementation of cutting-edge AV technology like Crestron DM NVX, we believe we have achieved that goal and are excited to see the impact it will have on our students' educational experiences."
The Crestron DM NVX AV over IP technology was introduced to future-proof multicast environments and allow multicast streams to be broadcast campus-wide. This innovative technology is set to greatly enhance the educational and development activities within RIT's SHED.
