Israel Intercepts Global Sumud Fleet, Sparking International Outcry
Israeli forces intercepted multiple vessels from the Global Sumud Fleet as they attempted to breach the Israel blockade, sparking international protests and diplomatic fallout.
The Israeli military targeted six ships: Sirus, Alma, Spectre, Huga, Adara, and Deyr Yassin. The interception led to international outcry, with demonstrations taking place in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, and Turkey. Activists reported ongoing harassment as the remaining ships pressed on towards Gaza.
Turkey swiftly condemned the incident, deeming it a violation of international law. The country's foreign minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, stated, 'We strongly condemn Israel's aggressive actions against the Global Sumud Fleet.' In response, both Colombia and Libya expelled Israel's diplomatic missions. Nine Turkish citizens participating in the convoy were detained by the Israeli military. Previous detainees have reported harsh treatment in Israel custody.
