'Irthi' presents traditional crafts with a modern vibe at ADIHEX exhibition
Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council Showcases Emirati Heritage at Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition
The Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council is making a significant appearance at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition 2025, which runs until September 7 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi.
The network community of the Council, comprising a diverse group of female artists and craftswomen, is participating in the event. While specific names have not been disclosed, the Council's presence underscores its commitment to reimagining traditional crafts through innovative designs.
Reem BinKaram, Director-General of the Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, emphasised the role of Emirati craftswomen as key partners in safeguarding heritage and contributing to building a diversified and sustainable economy. Today, the Council boasts a network of over 840 artisans.
BinKaram also highlighted that hunting and equestrian sports form an integral part of the Emirati heritage and identity. The Council's participation in the exhibition is in line with its vision of expanding the reach of crafts in both local and international markets.
The aim of the participation is to showcase Emirati heritage and handicrafts in a contemporary spirit while spotlighting artisans and their creativity in transforming traditions into products that speak to new generations.
The Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council, a pioneering institution working to preserve and enhance traditional crafts by blending them with modern design, is aligning with the UAE's national identity and aims to elevate local craftsmanship onto the global stage through this exhibition.
The Council also focuses on empowering craftswomen through training and skills development across the UAE, the wider Middle East, North Africa, and Asia. This initiative underscores the Council's dedication to fostering a thriving community of talented artisans and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the region.
