In the Woods Again: Young Gardening Stars from Hallstadt Triumph in Bayern's Horticulture Competition

Fresh Take:

The Upper Franconian triumph belongs to John Garden, Landscape and Sports Ground Construction – another shining achievement for the award-winning company that's nailed the State Honour Prize for top-notch training on multiple occasions.

Several tradesmen-in-training battled it out on the furt im Wald showgrounds on May 8-9, 2025, as part of the 18th Bayern Cup hosted by the Bavarian Association of Garden, Landscape, and Sports Ground Construction (VGL Bayern). These fighters were there to show their marketable skills, two weeks prior to the show opening.

The victorious pair from John Garden is moving onto the big leagues – the Landscape Gardener Cup 2025 in Berlin, happening on September 9-10. The team claimed the Bavarian Championship, ensuring their spot in the national tournament.

All contestants faced the same challenge: construct a 16-square-meter model garden using a given plan within 15 hours. Tasks included paving with granite cobblestones, water-bound path surfaces, seating wall building, integrating window elements into privacy screens, planting perennials, geophytes, and shrubs. Quality, technique, teamwork, safety compliance, and cleanliness were all evaluated. A jury decided the rankings with a sophisticated criteria catalog.

After two nerve-wracking days, 17-year-old Paul Müller and 18-year-old Felix Stark emerged victorious and sealed the championship for themselves. Stark began training in "gardener – specialized in garden and landscape construction" in 2022, while Müller started his journey in 2023, both at John Garden, Landscape, and Sports Ground Construction.

The runners-up were Johannes Auer and Louis Bauer from Schleitzer builds gardens creatively & innovatively in Munich. Third place was clinched by Florian Ahle and Timo Reisch from Rieper Garden & Swimming Pond, who hail from Karlskron, Neuburg-Schrobenhausen district.

The award ceremony was a moment for celebration and motivation. Sandro Bauer, First Mayor of Furth im Wald, and Deputy District Administrator of the Cham district, commended the VGL Bayern and the competitors:

"The work you've accomplished under competitive conditions deserves immense respect. I'm delighted we can display your creations for the visitors of the State Garden Show."

Moritz Fahn, Vice-President of VGL Bayern, shared his thoughts:

"These past few days have been thrilling: we witnessed the election of the new federal chancellor, the election of a new pope, and today, we have the winning of the Bayern Cup. My thanks go out to everyone involved for their unwavering dedication to our vocational competition."

Since 2000, VGL Bayern has been promoting rising talent in landscape gardening via annual competitions for trainees. The goal is to foster ambition and illustrate the comprehensive range of GaLaBau services to the public.

John Garden, Landscape and Sports Ground Construction takes home yet another victory with the Bavarian Championship 2025, reaffirming their excellence in shaping the next generation of skilled gardeners.

The Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Tourism, in conjunction with VGL Bayern, recognizes exceptional commitment to training by presenting the State honorary prize for exemplary training in garden and landscape construction to dedicated companies.
