High School Scholar Sania Musti '27 Utilized School Enrichment Funds for New York Fashion Week Attendance
Student's Dream Fashion Week Internship Made Possible by Centennial Scholarship
Sania Musti, a fashion and textile management student with a concentration in brand management and marketing, had the opportunity to live her childhood dream of working in luxury fashion during New York Fashion Week (NYFW).
Musti interned for Communa-K, a New York City-based casting and production company, where she assisted with fittings, worked with models, and coordinated a fashion show. Her responsibilities also included front-of-house and backstage organization, casting needs, and organizing a luxury show during NYFW.
The most meaningful part of Musti's enriching experience was watching the Son Jung Wan show on the last day. She also had the privilege of assisting with castings and fittings for two fashion houses: Son Jung Wan and Bibhu Mohapatra.
Navigating the subway schedule and keeping track of multiple models presented challenges for Musti, but she credits adaptability and the ability to work under pressure as essential skills gained during her internship.
Musti's NYFW experience was made possible by the North Carolina Textile Foundation's Centennial Scholarship Program. This scholarship supports students' tuition and fees, as well as providing enrichment funding for additional opportunities. The Centennial Scholarship Program offers up to $22,000 in scholarship funding each year, and Musti received the Centennial Scholarship, which enabled her to focus solely on her textile education without having to juggle multiple part-time jobs.
The Centennial Scholarship Program also provides additional $7,500 in enrichment funding to maximize the college experience. Musti used her enrichment funding to help organize the luxury show during NYFW.
Musti expresses her sincere gratitude to the donor who made her NYFW internship experience possible, Mr. Butts. She credits the Centennial Scholarship and its enrichment grants for helping her achieve her childhood dream of working in luxury fashion.
The North Carolina Textile Foundation's Centennial Scholarship Program supports students like Musti by providing financial aid that enables them to pursue educational opportunities in the fashion and textile industry, including study abroad experiences such as in London, England. This scholarship helps reduce financial barriers, allowing students to engage in global learning and develop cross-cultural skills essential for succeeding in the increasingly globalized textile and fashion sectors[1].
Additionally, the scholarship facilitates access to diverse international programs, internships, and research opportunities through the Wilson College of Textiles at NC State University. These experiences help students expand their knowledge, gain marketable skills, and become competitive candidates in the textile industry worldwide[1][3].
In summary, through financial support and the promotion of experiential learning, the Centennial Scholarship Program empowers students like Sania Musti to fully engage with educational and professional opportunities that are crucial for building successful careers in the fashion and textile field. Musti knows her NYFW experience won't be the last.
