Green Sports project receives backing from UNPZ in Omsk, proceeds with environmental initiative
In the heart of Siberia, the city of Omsk has witnessed an inspiring initiative aimed at fostering environmental awareness among its young residents. The 'Green Sport' project, supported by the Omsk Refinery and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), has been making waves in the region.
Dmitry Demin, a teacher of additional education at Omsk's 'Children's Eco-center' BDO and the leader of the Omsk Regional Children's and Youth Public Environmental Organization 'Ecological Center', spearheaded the project. The initiative is part of Omsk Refinery's systematic work in developing an environmental culture in the region.
Oleg Beliakovskiy, General Director of Omsk Refinery, emphasized the importance of such initiatives for long-term environmental protection. He commented that supporting projects like 'Green Sport' is their contribution to fostering environmental culture among the younger generation.
The event, held this year, involved nearly 400 schoolchildren. It included masterclasses on pottery painting and origami, as well as eco-workshops where children learned to make useful items from waste. The event resulted in the collection of several dozen kilograms of paper and plastic waste.
Last year, similar eco-workshops were held with the support of the refinery's grant. Youngsters from the 'Avangard' hockey academy were also involved, setting an example of respect for nature both on and off the ice.
The 'Green Sport' project won Gazprom Neft's grant competition under the 'Native Cities' program. Since 2013, around 1200 projects have been implemented in the fields of ecology, education, sports, and culture through Gazprom Neft's grant competition.
Volunteers trained by Dmitry Demin shared their knowledge with the younger generation through sports games. Information about the 'Green Sport' event can be found on 'Om1 Oмsk', along with an advertisement for the initiative.
Oleg Beliakovskiy stated that Omsk Refinery's environmental responsibility is evident not only in the modernization of production but also in their social policy. The refinery's support for initiatives like 'Green Sport' underscores their commitment to a sustainable future for Omsk and its residents.
