Government collaboration with Nasscom to offer complimentary AI skill enhancement programs
In an effort to help individuals continue developing their skills during the COVID-19 lockdown, the IT industry's apex body Nasscom, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has launched an initiative to provide an opportunity for those working from home to upgrade their tech skills, including Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The initiative, part of Nasscom's FutureSkills campaign, offers a range of free courses on various technologies. One such course is the Foundational Artificial Intelligence (AI) course from learning platform SkillUp Online. Originally retailing for Rs 6,800, this course will be available for free until May 15, as announced by Nasscom.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar, the person offering the course on the SkillUp Online platform, has aligned the course with the industry's recommended Foundation AI curriculum.
Ajay Prakash Sawhney, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, emphasised the importance of using the current situation to upgrade skills to remain industry relevant and future ready. He stated, "It's crucial to utilise this time to prepare for the future by learning new skills, especially in emerging technologies like AI."
Debjani Ghosh, President of Nasscom, echoed similar sentiments, stating, "Amidst the challenges posed by the novel coronavirus, it is crucial for individuals to continue developing their skills in emerging technologies to prepare for the future."
The initiative includes curated deep learning programs for various technologies, such as Big Data Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), and cybersecurity. For instance, the Foundational Big Data Analytics course from Digital Vidya will be made available free of cost (retail price Rs 5,000).
In addition to the courses, Nasscom plans to provide live webinars for participants to create more interactive learning on these themes. They also plan to provide learning modules for these technologies on their website.
Nasscom's FutureSkills initiative has curated deep learning programs for their partner ecosystem. The goal is to equip individuals with the skills needed to thrive in the rapidly evolving tech industry.
