Global Skills Forum to Take Place in Malaysia for First Time ASEAN-Wide, During ASEAN Year of Skills Celebrations

That's some cool news, mate! Malaysia's gonna host the Global Skills Forum 2025 - the first time it'll be held outside of Geneva. This badass event's gonna take place in Kuala Lumpur on October 22-23, 2025.

Malaysia's been chosen for this honor because, let's face it, they're kickin' ass with workforce transformation, labor market reform, and human capital development. Plus, they're the ASEAN Chair for 2025.

The Global Skills Forum is a crucial initiative under the ASEAN Year of Skills (AYOS), led by Human Resource Development Corporation in Malaysia. It was first held in Geneva in 2024, but the second edition's gonna be in Malaysia, showin' global confidence in Malaysia's skills leadership and readiness for the future of work.

Minister Steven Sim said it best: "GSF 2025 is not just about future skills - it's about fairness. We're investin' in people's skills, mate, regardless of where they're located. Whether you're a coder in Hanoi, a delivery rider in Jakarta, or a factory worker in Kuala Lumpur, your work deserves respect, your safety deserves protection, and your skills deserve investment."

To make it more accessible, Malaysia's expandin' e-LATiH, their national online learning platform, which now offers free and borderless access to reskilling and upskilling content for learners worldwide. They're also openin' their National Training Week (NTW) to all ASEAN citizens for the first time, with over 65,000 free skills development courses offered online and in physical formats, coverin' areas like AI, digitalisation, green tech, and leadership.

GSF 2025's gonna bring together 200+ delegates from 16 countries, includin' ministers, experts, industry leaders, union leaders, and global bodies. Their goals? Strengthen regional cooperation, accelerate investments in green and digital skills, boost public-private partnerships, and launch Malaysia's National Human Resources Policy 2024-2030 as a model for ASEAN-wide collaboration.

More specifically, they'll focus on gig economy integration and protections, expandin' social protection, rethinkin' occupational safety, and puttin' the private sector at the heart of skills innovation. Can't wait to see what goes down!
