German-Dutch Schools Flourish: 45 Certified as Euregio Profile Schools
The German-Dutch relationship continues to flourish, with a strong focus on educational cooperation. A total of 45 schools, 3 more on the German side and 2 on the Dutch side, have been certified as Euregio Profile Schools since 2020. This initiative aims to foster cross-border understanding and enable students to act sovereignly in the border region.
The Euregio Profile Schools certification, now held by 45 schools, requires a deep integration of the cross-border idea into daily school life. This includes offering neighboring language classes, facilitating student exchange, and promoting cross-border awareness. The Gymnasium am Ostring in Rheine became the first school in Germany to receive this certification in 2022.
Primary schools focus on teaching Dutch as a language of encounter, while vocational colleges and upper secondary schools integrate Dutch into their foreign language offerings. They also provide information on opportunities in the border region. This comprehensive approach ensures that students are well-prepared to navigate the German-Dutch border region culturally, socially, and economically.
The coordination office for German-Dutch exchange in the school department of the Münster district government, established in 2015, plays a crucial role in facilitating and supporting these cross-border educational initiatives.
With 45 schools now certified as Euregio Profile Schools, the German-Dutch educational cooperation continues to strengthen. This certification ensures that students are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the border region. The ongoing commitment to this initiative reflects the importance both countries place on fostering cross-border understanding and cooperation.
