Gaza's Health Services Collapse Amid Mass Displacement and Hunger

Health services in Gaza are facing a dire situation. A key clinic has been destroyed, and al-Shifa hospital is overwhelmed. Meanwhile, over 320,000 people have fled Gaza's biggest city since mid-August. UN agencies warn of escalating attacks, mass displacement, and worsening hunger in the Gaza Strip.

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) reports famine conditions in Gaza. Over 500,000 people are starving, with 390 confirmed deaths, including 140 children. The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) calls for an independent investigation into attacks on the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla. Israeli forces attacked the fleet, which was carrying humanitarian aid, in international waters on October 1, 2025.

The OHCHR spokesperson criticizes Israeli military tactics in Gaza City, stating they are 'inflicting terror' and forcing people to flee. The UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reports many child casualties in recent bombardments, making Gaza home to the highest number of child amputees per capita worldwide.

The situation in Gaza is critical, with health services collapsing, mass displacement, and widespread hunger. UN agencies urge Israel to lift the blockade and allow lifesaving aid into the Gaza Strip. An independent investigation into the attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla is needed.
