Free swimming pools available for financially struggling families in Neuss and Kaarst

In a bid to provide a summer break for children and help those who struggled to learn swimming during the coronavirus period, the district administration of Rhein-Kreis Neuss is considering offering free swimming courses. This initiative is part of a larger program called the "Strengthening Pact NRW - Together Against Poverty".

The proposal, backed by both Petra Schenke, chairperson of the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen faction, and Sabine Kühl, deputy chairperson of the SPD faction and spokesperson for social policy, aims to benefit families who cannot afford vacations. According to Sabine Kühl, many families who cannot afford a vacation will benefit from this free access.

The swimming courses, if offered, would not only provide free admission to the facility but also include potential swimming lessons. These courses are designed to help children who were unable to learn to swim during the corona period. Angela Stein-Ulrich, a member of the district council (Greens), supports this proposal.

The district administration's initiatives are not limited to free admission to the swimming facility. An accompanying adult for one child can also enter for free. This move is expected to provide a break for parents and allow children to enjoy a summer by the lake and in the swimming pool.

The project is funded by the "Strengthening Pact NRW - Together Against Poverty" program. The district administration proposes that children under the age of 13 from families receiving unemployment assistance, basic security, or housing allowance will receive free admission.

Interestingly, the city of Stuttgart already offers a similar initiative. The "Bonuscard + Kultur" includes free or discounted access for children in families receiving benefits like unemployment aid, basic security, or housing benefit to cultural and leisure facilities. With this card, children up to 17 years can be admitted free on weekends and holidays to certain offers.

Sabine Kühl emphasized the significance of this offer, stating that it would make a real difference in the lives of many children. The district administration's initiatives, if implemented, could prove to be a step forward in promoting equality and providing opportunities for underprivileged families.
