For three decades, this educational institution has been promoting tolerance, broadening the horizons of its young learners.
The German-Polish Gymnasium in Löcknitz is set to construct a fourth new building, marking a significant step forward in its mission to foster cross-border education and cultural exchange in Germany and Poland.
The new buildings, described as modern, compact, digital, and future-oriented, will provide a state-of-the-art learning environment for the increasing number of students from Vorpommern, Poland, and Brandenburg. The school, which has been pioneering shared learning and living since its inception, is expected to grow from 400 to 500 students and 40 teachers in the foreseeable future.
The school's unique approach teaches tolerance and coexistence, and conveys respect for freedom and peace. It is a shining example of how border regions in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Poland have grown together over the years. The school's daily work and education embody the European spirit, making it a model for a united Europe.
The Gymnasium in Löcknitz offers Polish as a second language, and in many cases, as a first foreign language instead of English. This unique approach allows students to immerse themselves in the language, traditions, and customs of their closest neighbors, making it a unique adventure opportunity for young people.
The school's cross-border project is important work, according to the state politician, Michael Sack. He stated that the project is not a luxury but a necessity. EU funding is necessary for the implementation of the project, which Sack is currently pursuing.
Minister of Europe Bettina Martin (SPD) stated that the Gymnasium in Löcknitz lives German-Polish friendship. The school, with its international and bilingual curriculum, German and Polish Abitur, is a testament to this friendship. The construction could begin as early as 2027, further solidifying the school's role as a beacon of German-Polish cooperation.
The project involves the demolition of buildings A, the canteen, and a container. The cost of construction is expected to be around 35 million euros. The school with its mission to promote understanding and friendship between Germany and Poland is a place of cultural exchange, with German and Polish children attending school together and becoming friends. The Gymnasium in Löcknitz is a shining example of how border regions can come together to foster a shared future.
