Flipkart, IIT Patna Team Up for AI, NLP Research in Indian Languages
Flipkart has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT Patna to drive industry-focused applied research in AI, NLP, and ML. The collaboration aims to develop robust machine translation techniques for Indian vernacular languages, preserving domain knowledge.
The MoU includes joint research activities, seminars, internships, and mentorship opportunities. Researchers at IIT Patna, specializing in natural language processing and machine translation, will work on translating large volumes of English customer reviews into Indian vernacular and regional languages. Flipkart's Chief Data Scientist, Mayur Datar, expressed the company's aim to leverage its data and platform knowledge for India-specific e-commerce challenges. IIT Patna students and scholars will gain real-world industry exposure through this collaboration.
Asif Ekbal, Associate Professor at IIT Patna, welcomed the collaboration, highlighting Flipkart's innovative solutions for Indian e-commerce adoption. Flipkart expects this partnership to foster collaboration in automation, AI, NLP, and ML, and help build critical national capabilities.
