Outspoken on Fairness: Ex-UPenn Swimmer Tackles Women's Sports Equity for Future Generations
Ex-teammates of Lia Thomas express criticism towards University of Pennsylvania concerning Title IX infraction issue
Ellen Holmquist, former University of Pennsylvania swimmer and attorney Bill Bock, weigh in on the pressing issues surrounding women's sports fairness during an exclusive interview on 'our website @ Night'.
In a historic move, the U.S. Department of Education has declared that the University of Pennsylvania violated Title IX by allowing transgender athlete Lia Thomas to compete on the women's swim team, a revelation made public on Monday.
Two courageous ex-UPenn women's swimmers, who endured the unfair competition and privacy issues that arose from sharing a pool and locker room with Thomas, opened up about the implications of this declaration from President Donald Trump's administration.
Conservative influencer Paula Scanlan, one of the first of Thomas' teammates to voice her concerns, expressed mixed emotions to our digital platform.
"I'm thrilled to hear the Department of Education is taking a tough stance against the University of Pennsylvania. Frankly, though, I'm concernstricken that my alma mater will actually step up and rectify the harm they've caused. They've had plenty of lead time to acknowledge their error and redress their female athletes, yet they've lingered in denial," Scanlan lamented.

Former UPenn women's swimmer Grace Estabrook expressed hope for more robust accountability actions from the Biden administration.
"Kudos to this administration for taking the reins on these matters and calling out Penn for their transgressions. I'm hopeful for swift justice for all those who suffered at Penn's hands. It's long overdue that the school faces consequences for allowing male athletes to trample women's opportunities and brazenly enter our intimate spaces," Estabrook asserted.

"Future generations of girls and women must be shielded from the emotional and sexual harassment that my teammates and I faced at Penn. The current policy that Penn and the NCAA are using to brush this under the rug is feeble, and it leaves us vulnerable. Ellen, Margot [Kaczorowski], and I, who are suing Penn, Harvard, the Ivy League, and the NCAA, won't settle for anything less than ironclad policies that guarantee women's sports are reserved for, and locked down to, biological females," Estabrook emphasized.
Should UPenn fail to comply with the Education Department's demands within ten days, the Department of Education may refer the matter to the Justice Department. To come into full compliance, the university must issue a statement affirming adherence to Title IX, restore individual athletic records, titles, honors, awards or similar recognition to female athletes who were robbed by transgender athletes competing in women's categories, and send an apology letter to each affected female athlete[2].
