EU's Startup Strategy Highlights Munich, Paris, and Madrid as Global Tech Hubs
The EU's Startup and Scaleup Strategy aims to foster global technology-driven companies. A recent study, based on the Digital Techno-Economic ecoSystem (DGTES) methodology, reveals the strategic importance of regions like Munich, Paris, and Madrid. However, other European regions also play significant roles in research, innovation, and startup creation.
The study assesses regions based on R&I players, intermediation indicators, GDP, employment-to-population ratio, and startup presence. Munich, Paris, and Madrid top the global list, while Paris and Madrid lead within the EU. However, regions like Erlagen and Brussels-Hoofdstad lack R&I startup presence, indicating potential for innovation and investment.
Austrian regions, for instance, have strong positions in leading startups and scaleups contributing to technological sovereignty, particularly in AI and data economy sectors. Other regions, highlighted in studies promoting digital sovereignty and cooperation, also play crucial roles. The study supports policy initiatives by analyzing economic indicators and offers a unique picture of the R&I landscape in the digital ecosystem.
While Munich, Paris, and Madrid are global leaders, other European regions also hold strategic importance for research, innovation, and startup creation. The study, based on the DGTES methodology, provides insights to support EU policy initiatives and foster a competitive digital ecosystem.
