Discussion scheduled for collecting opinions on the Preliminary Plan for Enhancing Vietnam's International Reputation
**Vietnam Unveils Strategy to Boost Global Image**
Vietnam is set to unveil a comprehensive strategy aimed at enhancing its global standing by 2030, focusing on communication, cultural diplomacy, digital innovation, and international partnerships. The Draft Strategy for Promoting Vietnam's National Image Abroad, due for submission to the Prime Minister in late July 2025, outlines ambitious targets to establish a positive image and cultural influence on the world stage.
The strategy, which emphasizes a multi-faceted, inclusive approach, aims to achieve at least 80% positive recognition of Vietnam's image on international media and digital platforms, attract 35 million international visitors, and ensure that culture contributes 8% to Vietnam's GDP.
Key strategies include leveraging strategic communication to enhance Vietnam's international position, promoting tourism, cultural industries, innovation, and integration. The strategy also emphasizes cultural diplomacy centered on localities, citizens, and businesses, professionalizing cultural diplomacy, engaging overseas Vietnamese as cultural ambassadors, and accelerating digital innovation.
To refine an effective, practical communications strategy suited to Vietnam's development goals in the new era, a roundtable will be held on July 10, 2025, in Hanoi. This gathering will bring together representatives from government ministries and agencies, media and press organisations, communication experts, and communications departments from major Vietnamese corporations and enterprises.
The roundtable, themed 'Defining Vietnam: Promoting the Nation's Image in the New Era', will focus on key issues such as shaping Vietnam's national brand, storytelling strategies to present Vietnam to the world, international experiences in nation branding, and the role of journalism, digital media, and independent storytellers in today's media landscape.
In addition to the roundtable, at least 10 major international-scale campaigns will be launched as part of the strategy. These campaigns aim to project the image of a stable, dynamic, innovative, and culturally rich Vietnam, a friendly, hospitable, and desirable country to live in.
The strategy also proposes diversifying communication methods, including digital platforms and integrating communications into diplomatic, cultural, and sporting events. Complementary solutions include strengthening local communications capacities, developing distinctive local brands, conducting international surveys, and leveraging the role of external information platforms.
Vietnam's strategy targets positioning the country among the top 40 countries in terms of positive global media presence by 2030. This aligns with Vietnam’s broader vision of entering a "new era of the nation's rise," leveraging peace, cooperation, and technological advances along with sustained economic integration to secure a stronger international profile by 2030.
- The government's proposed strategy for enhancing Vietnam's global image includes a focus on leveraging digital innovation, particularly in AI, to boost communication and cultural diplomacy.
- To ensure a positive image in sports and education-and-self-development sectors, the strategy looks to attract 35 million international visitors and make culture contribute 8% to Vietnam's GDP by 2030.
- In line with the strategy, labor sectors such as tourism and cultural industries will be promoted to create a stable, dynamic, innovative, and culturally rich image of Vietnam on the world stage.
- The strategy also entails the implementation of law and policy reforms, ensuring that they align with Vietnam's aim of becoming a nation recognized for peace, cooperation, and technological advances by 2030.
