Digital Literacy Training for Healthcare Professionals in Mansa, Initiated by SMART Zambia

**Digital Literacy Training Boosts Healthcare Service Delivery in Zambia**

In a significant step towards modernizing healthcare service delivery, the SMART Zambia Institute has launched a digital literacy training program at Mansa General Hospital in Luapula Province. The initiative, which extends beyond the hospital's walls, aims to empower 23 doctors and support staff with practical digital skills, ultimately benefiting a wider healthcare workforce across the region.

The training program is part of SMART Zambia's broader efforts to equip medical professionals with the necessary tools and knowledge to navigate digital systems effectively. It focuses on key areas essential for modern healthcare delivery, including cybersecurity awareness, the use of the Government Service Bus (GSB) for efficient inter-agency data exchange, and learning about Smartcare Pro, an electronic medical records platform.

The training addresses the underutilization of electronic medical records due to limited computer literacy among healthcare personnel. By enhancing digital capabilities, the program contributes to progress towards Universal Health Coverage in Zambia, ensuring that more patients receive efficient and effective care.

The training program is designed to modernize healthcare service delivery in public health institutions beyond the current training site. It includes digital skills training sessions, workshops, webinars, assessments, and community engagement and support to embed digital literacy within healthcare teams and encourage continuous learning.

The digital skills training sessions cover cybersecurity principles tailored to healthcare data protection, secure login practices, malware awareness, and safe use of online platforms. Specialized modules teach healthcare workers how to use Smartcare Pro efficiently for patient record management and reporting, along with any GSB-related tools used in Zambia’s health sector.

This initiative is a testament to Zambia's growing adoption of digital health records and the critical importance of cybersecurity in healthcare. The training program is focused on healthcare professionals and is conducted by the e-Government Division of the SMART Zambia Institute in Luapula Province.

As the program unfolds, it is expected to significantly impact healthcare service delivery, improving patient care and data management while modernizing Zambia's health sector. For more precise program details or examples from Zambia’s health sector, local health authorities or organizations involved in digital health implementation might provide resources or pilot program information.
