Des Moines Schools Sue Over Vetting of Arrested Superintendent

Des Moines Public Schools is taking legal action against JG Consulting, alleging improper vetting of former superintendent Ian Roberts. Roberts, who entered the U.S. on a student visa in 1999 and was ordered to leave in 2024, was recently arrested by ICE for possessing a loaded handgun, cash, and a hunting knife.

The district is suing JG Consulting for breach of contract and negligence. It is seeking damages for reputational harm, superintendent pay, and additional hiring costs. Roberts claimed false credentials, including a PhD from Morgan State and attendance at MIT. The background check, conducted by the district's human resources department, failed to uncover these inaccuracies. Roberts' arrest on Sept. 26 has raised serious concerns about his past and the thoroughness of his action network.
