DCYDO and MCMN organize a workshop on the prevention of child sexual abuse
The Davao City Youth Development Office (DCYDO), in alliance with the Mindanao Children's Ministry Network (MCMN), recently organized a one-day seminar aimed at preventing the sexual abuse and exploitation of children. As a subdivision under the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), DCYDO spearheads initiatives that foster youth leadership and child advocacy in the protection of their communities.
The seminar, themed around the issues of Online Sexual Abuse/Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM), drew the attention of youth leaders such as SK officials and other organization representatives. Participants included officials and representatives from the Davao City Youth Development Council, Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines, Davao City Youth for Green Environment, and Youth for Safety Organization.
Manuel Crismas, the Operations Head of DCYDO, shared that the objective of the seminar was to raise awareness while also empowering young leaders to collaborate with community partners for the protection of children. Highlights of the seminar included an afternoon Focus Group Discussion (FGD), during which participants pledged to implement strategies in their respective barangays.
Crismas revealed that SK officials expressed a keen interest among youth leaders to spearhead the campaign by conducting localized training and awareness-raising initiatives. This collaboration between DCYDO and the SK officials implies training community figures, such as Purok Leaders, to respond promptly whenever concerns arise.
Crismas added that through such seminars, DCYDO strives to establish a robust youth-led advocacy network instrumental in mitigating sexual abuse and promoting a safer environment for children across Davao City.
These empowerment initiatives by DCYDO, in conjunction with MCMN, extend the organization's reach, enabling more effective engagement with community groups and religious organizations. By offering educational programs and collaborating with organizations, DCYDO aims to outfit youth leaders and child advocates with the necessary skills and resources to tackle issues of sexual abuse and exploitation effectively. Additionally, DCYDO's partnership with MCMN extends their expertise and resources, enhancing their efforts in impactive ways.
