Prepare for an exciting January at Park University, as a myriad of events and achievements are set to captivate the community.
On January 24, 2025, the Park Trio, an ensemble from Park University's International Center for Music, will take the stage at the 1900 Building in Mission Woods, Kansas, promising an evening of enchanting music.
Meanwhile, the Parkville Campus is celebrating the success of 12 student-athletes who have earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District recognition. Among them, three from the men's soccer team, six from the women's soccer team, and three from the women's volleyball team, have all demonstrated exceptional academic and athletic prowess.
The upcoming months will also see a diverse range of events at the Parkville Campus, including art exhibits, concerts, holidays, a Board of Trustees Meeting, and a concert featuring Stanislav and Friends at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Missouri.
In honour of Park University's 150th anniversary, the Frances Fishburn Archives and Special Collections will place puzzles featuring images of the University's flagship Parkville Campus around the campus in mid-January.
Meanwhile, the spotlight is on Izabella Ceratti, a standout player in women's volleyball at Park University’s Parkville Campus. Over the years, Ceratti has garnered multiple Outstanding Player Awards, served as a team captain, and consistently ranked among the team leaders in key statistical categories such as kills, digs, and blocks.
Ceratti's impressive 2024 season saw her lead the team in points (366), kills (344), and hitting percentage (.240). Her dedication to the sport and academic excellence have earned her a place on the 2024 AVCA-NAIA All-Midwest Region first team.
Elsewhere, Grecia Ung, a senior on the Parkville Campus women's volleyball team, has been making headlines, with her sister, Argentina, being named Big 12 Setter of the Year on Dec. 3. Argentina, a women's volleyball graduate student at Arizona State University, has been receiving well-deserved recognition for her exceptional performance on the court.
Park University students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to sign up for ParkAlert, a mass notification system for important/urgent/emergency messages and weather-related alerts.
In the realm of academics, Tom Kuehnel, a sophomore political science major, has made a name for himself with his article titled "Why did NATO's Post-Cold War Policy Toward Russia Fail?" published in the recent edition of InterAgency Journal.
Meanwhile, Park University graduates continue to make an impact in their respective fields. Michael Davidman, a Park University graduate, was highlighted in a story that appeared in the Indianapolis Star and performed with the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra on Dec. 8, 2024.
J'Vonelle Simpson, '13, was featured in the Jamaica Observer, a newspaper in her home country, on Dec. 17. Simpson, now a clinical laboratory scientist in the area of transplantation and histocompatibility, is a testament to the University's commitment to nurturing well-rounded, successful graduates.
Lastly, two Park University faculty members have been making waves in the media. Tim Westcott, Ph.D., director of the George S. Robb Centre for the Study of the Great War and professor of history, was interviewed for stories about the Centre's efforts in reviewing Native Americans who may have been denied the Medal of Honor in World War I due to race.
Matt Harris, Ph.D., associate professor of political science, provided comments for stories that aired on KMBZ-FM in Kansas City on Dec. 10 related to the plans the Missouri Legislature has in store for 2025.
As Terry Calaway, Park University Board of Trustees chair, co-authored an opinion article titled "Paradigm Shift: DEI, Anti-DEI or Underrepresentation?", it is clear that Park University continues to be at the forefront of important conversations and initiatives.
