Course focusing on documenting and verifying carbon emissions
Singapore, in its continued efforts to combat climate change, has announced a series of ISO 14064 training courses scheduled for 2025. ISO 14064 is an internationally recognised standard used for carbon emissions reporting and verification.
The training courses aim to equip companies with the necessary tools for voluntary or mandatory carbon emissions reporting. The courses are offered by various organisations, including the National Environment Agency, Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore, Singapore Green Building Council, and LR Energy & Tech.
The ISO 14064-2:2019 training, organised by the National Environment Agency, will take place from 11 to 13 March 2025. This course offers 12 PDU (Professional Development Units) and is scheduled to be held in central Singapore.
Another training course, ISO 14064-1:2018, will be conducted by the Sustainable Energy Association of Singapore and Singapore Green Building Council from 27 to 29 May 2025. Like the ISO 14064-2:2019 training, this course also provides 12 PDU.
LR Energy & Tech offers a ISO 14064 verification and greenhouse gas management course scheduled for 18 August 2025. This is a 2-day course costing SGD 290 per participant and is suitable for all levels. The course includes a Certificate of Attendance.
For those interested in sustainability-related professional certifications relevant to ISO 14064, the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA) offers Sustainability Professional Certificates with e-learning and face-to-face modules. However, specific ISO 14064 course dates are not listed there.
In addition to these courses, Singapore has implemented a carbon tax, the first in Southeast Asia, on 1 January 2019. The carbon tax level was set at S$5/tCO2e for the first five years from 2019 to 2023. From 1 January 2024, the carbon tax will be raised to S$25/tCO2e in 2024 and 2025, and further raised to S$45/tCO2e in 2026 and 2027. The carbon tax is intended to reach S$50-80/tCO2e by 2030 to strengthen the price signal for reducing carbon footprint.
Singapore aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 as part of its Long-Term Low-Emissions Development Strategy (LEDS). To reach this goal, Singapore will reduce emissions to around 60MtCO2e in 2030 after peaking emissions earlier.
