Copenhagen Students Assess Climate Action - Examining Climate Protection Efforts in the City
On July 8, 2025, students from the University of Applied Sciences for Social Development (HfGG) in Koblenz will present their findings from the Climate Check, a comprehensive assessment of the city's climate protection measures, in a public event at the university.
The HfGG, a young, state-recognized, and politically independent institution, offers study programs such as the Bachelor's degree program Economy - Sustainability - Transformation (OENT), and two Master's degree programs: Economy - Sustainability - Social Development (ONG) and Economy - Responsibility - Institutional Development (OVI). The university is financed by engaged citizens and foundations and has approximately 160 students.
The Climate Check was conducted by students from the Bachelor's degree program Economy - Sustainability - Transformation at the HfGG. The assessment analyzed 35 municipal political measures across six sectors: energy, heat, transport, industry, agriculture, and administration. The findings of the Climate Check will offer an overview of already implemented climate protection measures in Koblenz and identify catch-up potential.
The public event will include a panel discussion with guests from politics, city administration, and civil society. The discussion will take place from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM at the University of Applied Sciences for Social Development (Kornpfortstraße 15).
Stadt.Land.Klima!, a nationwide initiative for municipal climate protection, has developed the ranking used in the Climate Check. The initiative aims to make climate protection easier to implement at the local level and to make the political will for municipal climate protection visible, measurable, and comparable throughout Germany. The Climate Check enables comparison with other cities and municipalities in terms of climate protection.
For more information about the event, visit www.hfgg.de/events. Admission to the event is free, and no prior registration is required. The university welcomes everyone interested in learning more about the city's climate protection efforts and the future-oriented projects derived from the Climate Check.
