Bremen Advancement Training Premium: Empowering a Diverse Workforce
The Bremen Advancement Training Premium, introduced in 2019, has been a significant driving force in the city's economic, industrial, and innovation landscape. The programme, responsible for the implementation of which lies with the NBank, has been instrumental in providing financial aid for further training, such as becoming a master, educator, specialist, or technician.
According to Senator Dr. Claudia Schilling, the program has been successful, as evidenced by the data provided. From 2019 to 2023, a total of 4,146 premiums have been paid out, amounting to around 16.6 million euros. Among the recipients, women account for 49%, with educators making up 54% of the female recipients. Women also constitute over 50% of specialists and business administrators among recipients.
Senator Dr. Schilling expressed satisfaction that the premium reaches nearly 50% of women, highlighting the programme's commitment to gender equality in vocational and academic education. She also emphasised that the Bremen Advancement Training Premium is beneficial for companies and institutions, as it helps in acquiring highly qualified specialists.
The geographical distribution of recipients is diverse. Approximately 67% of premium recipients reside in the city of Bremen, while 11% reside in the city of Bremerhaven. Interestingly, 22% of recipients live in neighboring Lower Saxony counties but are employed in Bremen.
The Bremen Advancement Training Premium emphasises the equivalence of vocational and academic education, a principle that resonates with the programme's aim of fostering a diverse and skilled workforce. For successfully completed advancement training, a one-time payment of 4,000 euros is given.
Looking forward, plans for 2024 and 2025 include 1,000 funding opportunities each, a doubling compared to the years 2021 to 2023. This expansion is expected to further bolster Bremen's position as a successful economic, industrial, and innovation hub in the future.
As of May 14, 2023, Senator for Work, Social Affairs, Youth and Integration, Dr. Claudia Schilling, reported the success of the program, with 177 applications resulting in a payout of 708,000 euros in 2023 alone. The Bremen Advancement Training Premium continues to be a testament to Bremen's commitment to fostering a skilled and diverse workforce.
Notably, many federal states only pay master premiums, while Bremen offers the Advancement Training Premium, a testament to the city's forward-thinking approach to workforce development. The programme's success underscores the importance of comprehensive and equitable support for further training and education.
