Comprehensive strategy essential for addressing human resource challenges in the energy industry – Alexey Kolodeznikov's viewpoint.
Yakutia Tackles Personnel Issues in Energy Sector
Alexei Kolodеznikov, the General Director of AO "Sakhatransneftegaz," discussed the outcomes of the State Council of the Russian Federation Commission meeting on "Energy," led by Yakutia Head Aisen Nikolayev, with a focus on staffing the fuel and energy complex. He emphasized the need for a holistic approach to addressing personnel issues in the energy sector.
The meeting revealed common challenges across many regions, such as an aging workforce, lack of interest among young specialists, and outdated educational programs. In an effort to address these issues, various strategies are being implemented in Yakutia.
One such strategy is the "Local Talent for Industry" program, inaugurated in 2017, which has successfully placed over 15,000 individuals in the industrial sector, including the fuel and energy complex. A new regional program, "Working Yakutia. Staff," is set to launch in 2024.
Moreover, due to the republic's leadership’s focus, numerous large fuel and energy companies and industrial enterprises are collaborating with educational institutions in Yakutia. For example, AO "Sakhatransneftegaz" partners with the North-Eastern Federal University named after M.K. Ammosov and Olekminsky Technical School, providing equipped classrooms and student training programs. Since the inception of the "Local Talent for Industry" program, around 4,000 people have been employed at "Sakhatransneftegaz."
In essence, a comprehensive approach that combines employment programs, collaboration with educational institutions, skill enhancement, career guidance, and support measures is crucial to ensuring a steady supply of qualified personnel for the fuel and energy complex in Yakutia and fostering the sector's growth.
It is also worth noting the development of advanced nuclear energy projects in Yakutia, such as the land-based small nuclear power plant using a RITM reactor, which will provide reliable energy while creating local employment opportunities linked to cutting-edge nuclear technology. To capitalize on such projects, targeted employment programs and educational collaborations are vital to train and recruit local specialists skilled in nuclear technology, plant operation, and maintenance.
