Park University Assists U.S. Coast Guard Members During Government Shutdown

Park University, a top military-friendly college and a "Best for Vets" private institution in the country, is providing specific assistance to U.S. Coast Guard members during federal government shutdowns.

Since 2009, Park University has received international recognition for its support of U.S. military service members. During the 2013 federal government sequestration, the institution offered emergency scholarships to active duty military students who weren't eligible for GI Bill benefits.

Currently, Park University is assisting Coast Guard members by waiving the tuition of one class (up to three credit hours) for the Spring I term, and offering a $60 credit toward the cost of books for those enrolling for the same term.

U.S. Coast Guard members can enroll online at https://military.our website/ or by calling (888) 319-9522. Questions about the offer can be referred to Sarah Weygand, assistant director of military and veteran student services, at sweygand@our website.

During a shutdown, the Coast Guard is facing issues with tuition assistance funding, as the Department of Homeland Security is one of seven agencies not funded. Park University's assistance helps Coast Guard members maintain access to higher education despite the disruption of typical federal tuition programs during a shutdown.

While the University's specific programs for Coast Guard members during shutdowns are not directly mentioned in their official communications, it is common for institutions partnering with the military to have measures in place to support service members through financial or administrative assistance during such periods.

For precise details about Park University’s existing programs, it is advisable to contact Park University’s military or veterans affairs office directly. The admission fee for all military members is waived at Park University. More information about education benefits offered by VA can be found at the official U.S. government website: https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill.

GI Bill is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Park University currently serves 11,415 students at 42 campuses in 22 states and online, with 33 of its campuses located on military installations across the country.
